New York Film Festival 2011 “Melancholia” Review

melancholia_73_photo_by_christian_geisnaes

The New York Film Festival is holding their press screenings this week. The reviewer below just saw “Melancholia” which features Alexander Skarsgard. Here is an excerpt of the review:

Melancholia, which stars Kirsten Dunst, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Kiefer Sutherland, Alexander Skarsgård, Charlotte Rampling, Stellan Skarsgård and others.

For films like this that, we could say, don’t fit the criteria I mentioned above, I’ll try to keep my reviews briefer than usual.

A beautiful film about the end of the world” is Melancholia’s tagline, and I think that just about says it all; or as I said in my 2-word Twitter review right after yesterday’s screening, “beautifully depressing,” because it is. CLICK READ MORE FOR THE FULL REVIEW:

Screen Captures for Melancholia

melancholia005

Alexander Skarsgard’s upcoming film “Melancholia”  will give fans a glimpse into “the end of the world”. Unfortunately for Alexander and Kirsten Dunst that day falls on their wedding day. The screen cap above is from the video trailer released today. The happy couple look quite beautiful together. This is not the first time fans of Alex have seen him donning a wedding tuxedo. In the film Om Sara he also played a groom. (that also had a not so happy ending for his wedding as well).

melancholia014The gallery below contains screen caps from the trailer. Alexander got to work with his father, Stellan in this film:melancholia011

Melancholia stars John Hurt, Kirsten Dunst, Charlotte Gainsbourg (Antichrist), Kiefer Sutherland (Lost Boys, Mirrors), Charlotte Rampling (Angel Heart), Alexander Skarsgard (“True Blood”), Stellan Skarsgard (Exorcist: The Beginning), and Udo Kier (Suspiria).

The film’s title refers to Planet Melancholia, an enormous planet that looms threateningly close to Earth. (shown above) “No more happy endings!” commented Lars von Trier in an earlier story. He is directing from his own screenplay.
